U13 DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

Following Hockey New Zealand’s recent Strategy Delivery Review, it was determined that from 2021 there would no longer be national tournaments for representative age group teams below the national Under 18 tournaments.

Instead of running national tournaments, associations have been tasked with providing quality development focused opportunities that reach a broad base of participants, are fun, affordable, and focused on skill development and progression. In line with these recommendations, Hockey South Canterbury are excited to implement the 2022 Hockey South Canterbury under 13 Development Programme.

Programme Purpose:

Provide an inclusive development opportunity that extends year 7 & 8 (under 13) athletes, and coaches of this age group, beyond the experiences they receive in club/school hockey

Programme Objectives:

• Provide participants with a high-quality development focused experience that they will enjoy.

• Capture a large pool of participants and support them to reach their potential.

• Develop targeted principles and concepts that will benefit participant’s long-term development.

Who:

Open registration for year 7 & 8 athletes who want to participate in a development programme that aims to extend them beyond their club and school playing experiences. Athletes must meet the below criteria:

• Must be Year 7 & 8 at school.

• Must play for a club or school team entered in the HSC Primary Competition.

Phase One Dates and Details

7 week training programme that will consist of a mixture of training and match play.

Under 13 Boys dates: 

Mixture of Sunday Mornings 9am-12.30pm and Thursday Afternoons 4pm – 6.30pm

Sunday 7th August, Sunday 14th August, Thursday 25th August, Thursday 1st September, Thursday 8th September, Thursday 15th September, 22nd September.

Once registrations close participants will be placed in to training groups and will be advised by email of their training time. 

Under 13 Girls dates:

Wednesday Afternoons 4pm - 6pm: 

3rd August, 10th August, 17th August, 24th August, 7th September, 14th September, 21st September 

Once registrations close participants will be placed in to training groups and will be advised by email of their training time.

Cost: $60.00 per player for 7 weeks. This will cover turf hire, training gear, coaching and administration-based costs.  This will be invoiced by Hockey South Canterbury and must be paid before the programme commences.  If payment is an issue, please contact us to discuss options.

• Sunday 11th September all Year 7 and 8 boys and girls. 

Festival Events

Year 7 Boys v Mid Canterbury and Canterbury Teams in Ashburton – Saturday 24th September

Year 7 Girls v Mid Canterbury and Canterbury Teams in Ashburton – Sunday 25th September

Year 8 Boys and Girls v Mid Canterbury and Canterbury in Christchurch – Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th September

Costs for Festival/Tournaments – Year 7

Year 7 players will be charged $10 per player to play in the Year 7 festival in Ashburton for turf/entry costs with parent/caregivers arranging their child’s own transport.  Hockey South Canterbury Hoodies will be an extra cost at approximately $52.00 and are optional. 

Cost for Festival/Tournaments - Year 8 

Players costs are to be confirmed but will include transport, accommodation, and food for the weekend.  Approximate cost $150 per player.  Hockey South Canterbury Hoodies will be an extra cost at approximately $52.00 and are optional.
